MAY 30-JUNE 01 & JUNE 03-16 · 2024

since 2005

DESIGNED BY Daniel Horowitz

The NYPFF welcomes you to the 19th annual celebration of recent films from Poland!

As the only continuous presenter of Polish cinema in New York for almost two decades, we are proud to offer seven features as well as shorts that reflect the best of filmmaking from the region. Among these are Agnieszka Holland's "Green Border" - a refugee drama that won the top prize at the Polish Film Awards - and Maciej Hamela's "In the Rearview," which was shortlisted for the Best Documentary Academy Award.

It is exciting to showcase the growing number of female filmmakers.

We are delighted to be back at Scandinavia House on Park Avenue - as well as online - and look forward to seeing you!

Festival Director

VERDICT:

The main award for the best film is awarded to "Green Border" directed by Agnieszka Holland for creating a moving depiction of human drama that transcends time and borders, leaving no room for indifference. "Green Border" is more than a film - it is a reflection on humanity, touching its deepest values.

The award for the best acting performance goes to Eryk Biedunkiewicz for the role of Antoś in the film "Kajtek the Wizard" directed by Magdalena Łazarkiewicz. For creating a character that captivates the viewer's heart, for dedication, and a magical talent that takes us into a beautiful, colorful yet challenging world of adulthood.

The Jury's award goes to Maja Komorowska for the role of the grandmother in the film "Kajtek the Wizard" directed by Magdalena Łazarkiewicz. For a magnetic acting performance, for creating a positive character whose warmth and ethos remain with the viewer long after watching the film.

The Special Award of the New York Polish Film Festival for directing and production is awarded to the film "Doppelgänger" directed by Jan Holubek. For creating an excellently crafted world that transports us to the times of solidarity in a psychological thriller. And for showing the two sides of the Iron Curtain permeating the personality of a communist intelligence agent.

.... and the 2024 Best Documentary Award goes to:

“Rivers are the arteries of our planet.”
The award for the best documentary film goes to "Until the Last Drop" directed by Ewa Ewart for the ability to address such a challenging topic as the health of planet Earth with sensitivity and insight. For the hope of a better tomorrow and for reminding us that the human body is made up of 70% water.
